Grox is a Featured Article"Grox" has been featured, meaning it was deemed an article of interest by the Community.“Being useful to the Grox is good for your survival.”- The Grox The Grox are a sapient species of cyborg aliens that are supposedly the most evil and hostile race in the galaxy and the main antagonist in Spore. They are feared by every alien with a philosophy and an archetype. The Grox control a vast empire with 2. Galactic Core. They are unique as they don't possess any known archetype and have a unique philosophy. Overview Nature The Grox's appearance without their mechanical parts. At this state they are very weak and have low stats.“The Grox are the ultimate evil in the galaxy They are machines that exist entirely outside of nature.”- Stones of Life. Feared and hated by every empire in the galaxy, the Grox as a species are extremely delicate and weak having survived only due to their incredible technological advancement over other species. They are an ancient race, having been spacefaring for eons while nearly all other races weren't even sapient yet. Although their minimal senses and strength have been enhanced by cybernetic implants, they're still among the most feeble sapient lifeforms in the Galaxy, but make up for it with incredible military might, and the ability to prosper on barren planets. Unlike most land creatures, Grox are intolerant of conditions survivable to other life forms. As such, they can only survive on T0 planets. If a planet's terrascore is raised, the planet cannot be inhabited by Grox unless anti- terraformed. It may be true that, since every religious artifact mentions that the Grox must be opposed, they are of another archetype; it would appear that they are an archetype unto themselves. They are incredibly territorial, blocking vast majority of spaceships from reaching the Galactic Core, possibly to keep the Staff of Life hidden, which might endanger them. The Grox' spaceships can be seen in the Creature Stage, occasionally abducting creatures, so the Grox may have been the first sapient beings to evolve. Culture “The Grox are machines with absolutely no sense of humor! They destroy entire races and never offer an explanation of what it is that ticks them off!”- Blocks of Chance The implants of the Grox serve an important religious, as well as functional, purpose. The implants not only improve their abilities for functional reasons, but also distance the Grox from others. The implants' purpose may also be to remind them of their own physical weakness, which would explain why the Grox consider other empires unfit to roam the universe, due to the belief that they don't deserve their gifts. The Grox may attempt to mimic the average life form's behavior during interaction, but they are bad at portraying a 'normal' personality without drawing attention to their cyborg anatomy and their obsessive hatred for every other life form. They do, however, understand the Spice trade and Sporebucks, the common Galactic Currency. Toxicity The Grox are 'toxic', as exposure to conditions survivable to other life forms causes them to disintegrate. If the player abducts a Grox citizen, they are incinerated because they are 'too toxic for your Cargo Hold.' This 'toxicity' is shrouded in mystery, but it does indeed tie in to how the Grox Empire is viewed by other civilizations, as an abomination of incomprehensible size that must nevertheless be feared. Aggression The Grox are approximately two times as distrusting as a Warrior Empire (- 1. Grox's - 7. 0). They are extremely hard to defeat or ally due to their size and aggression. They will attack systems tens of thousands of parsecs away in their war on all fully organic life, and once attacked the receiving planet of the Grox raid always seems to be too shell- shocked to communicate with the player's ship. In Other Cultures Almost all philosophies hate the Grox. Scientists and Diplomats don't actively hate them, as Scientists are somewhat admiring and are curious about them (possibly because of their technological achievement), while Diplomats regard them as a powerful potential ally. Bards think of them as "no fun at all" and accuse them of "not explaining what ticks them off." Warriors and Knights view them as the ultimate challenge and rivals, Traders regard them as enemies of universal happiness, Zealots hate them for not believing in Spode, and Shamans and Ecologists say they are unable to reach harmony due to their murderous hatred of nature. They are also disliked due to their ownership of the contested Galactic Core, desired by all (except possibly Bards, who say "we never wanted to go there anyway", although this may just be a case of sour grapes). Characteristics Appearance The Grox, being cybernetic creatures, most notably exhibit cybernetic implants that replace the right eye, right arm, right leg, and part of the abdomen. They are the most notable for their hostility, but are also notable for their asymmetric, weak, impish appearance. They are short, red in color, and their non- cybernetic parts are weak creature parts. Biology They have an astonishing number of colonies surrounding the Galactic Core, serving as an obstacle to the player. They are extremely aggressive and are only able to survive on otherwise uninhabitable T0 planets. Raising a planet's T- Score will make it impossible for the Grox to inhabit it and will destroy any existing Grox colonies on said planet. It is extremely hard for any empire to defeat the Grox, since their amazingly vast empire spans 2. Abilities Too toxic for cargo hold. Cannot carry Grox in your spaceship). The Grox, when launching a land- based assault, often use genetically bred soldiers, (Dronox and Insectrox) to attack because the Grox can only survive on T0 planets. Language Writings taken directly from the letters on the "Dance With the Devil" badge noticeably exhibit Grox lettering. Some of the letters share a striking resemblance to Latin letters. The Grox voice is a glitchy, beeping, fluctuating, computerized voice with many strange words, and is also composed of what pitch or tone is used, though their anthem is quite different from this. It consists of static, robotic keening and a deep, happy voice singing. In a rare glitch you are able to trade with the Grox. ![]() ![]() ![]() In order to unpack this file after download, please enter the following password: trainer. Spore is a great new addition to EA's impressive line of simulation games. During this time, they have somewhat different sounds, in which their voice is high and calm with some sudden moments of glitchy anger. At some point they are even heard laughing. Equipment A crashed Grox Spaceship in the creature stage. Vehicles Grox have powerful but slow vehicles, with exception of the Grox spaceship. Grox Grumbler - Land vehicle. Oceanic Grox - Sea vehicle. Groxoplane - Air vehicle. Grox (spaceship) - Spaceship. Buildings City Hall: Grox Platz. Factory: Grox Stacks. Entertainment: Grox- o- Plexx. House: Grox Sweet Grox. Turret: 1. 60. 0 HP. NOTE: If you are close to allying the Grox (Blue/Green relationship face), you can establish a trade route with one of their strong colonies and buy the system. So, when you bought it you can use GROX buildings (mentioned above) for yourself! But if you want to have it available in all of your saved- files, go and edit it after you scanned the building (just add a material and remove it afterwards if you want it JUST like the Grox ones). Parts Tactics Although the Spore manual says "They don't understand relationships", you may still deal with Grox. Alliance tactics The relationship of a player allied with the Grox. It can get higher than this - it just requires some time with embassies, the gracious greeter super- power, etc. After allying with the Grox. Dance With the Devil badge“The Grox are a machine race that have blockaded the center of the galaxy. They are extremely dangerous. We have not managed to establish a working relationship with them.”- Scrolls of Order Vol. If you wish to ally with the Grox, it is highly recommended that you are friendly in Tribal Stage, because you'll get the Gracious Greeter ability, which gives a relationship boost with races you meet. Ideal archetype is Zealot, because they have the Fanatical Frenzy ability (it breaks the Galactic Code) and the Gracious Greeter ability, if they're social in the tribal stage. Scientists have Gravitation Wave, but they can't be social in Tribal Stage. At least four Planet Busters, and Gravitation Wave or Fanatical Frenzy. You can be granted up to +5. Grox if you use an ability that breaks the Galactic Code. Friendly Tools: The Happy Ray (the Super Happy Ray is highly recommended), or Fireworks Gifts: 5. Sporebucks for a +1. An embassy (note that the Grox will attack it, but it may give a reputation boost). Humongous amounts of Repair and Recharge packs (it's much cheaper than using Grox resources - they charge a lot). To ally with the Grox, fly over to them where they are located near the Galactic Core. You must first disband your allied fleet and turn off Auto Blaster, or your allies will attack the Grox and make things worse. Use the Super Happy Ray and Fireworks until you get the maximum +3. The Recharge packs will be useful here, along with Repair packs as the Super Happy Ray may consume all your energy in a matter of seconds (Depending on your ship`s energy capacity). Do missions for them until you get the maximum +5. You will also get a +5 for the "You agreed to help us". The Repair packs will be useful here. It also counts as a mission when you send your allies to attack a Grox planet, and then fight for the Grox against your allies. The Grox will still attack you but you get a +5 reputation bonus each time you assist them. Try placing an embassy, and remember that the bonus takes time. It caps at +1. 0. Blow up 4 planets near the Grox using the Planet Buster, and if possible, use Gravitation Wave or Fanatical Frenzy. The goal is to get the maximum +5. Galactic Code. NOTE: DO NOT USE IT ON GROX SYSTEMS! Start a trade route when they are up to the blue face (friendly). Placing colonies nearby will make it easier to recharge, repair, and buy tools. Spore (Game) - Giant Bomb. Overview. Spore is the latest game from the prodigious brain of Will Wright and aims to simulate the development of an entire species. The player begins the game in the form of a microscopic organism that arrives on a planet via exogenesis or panspermia, deposited in the primordial oceans by a meteorite impact. From this point on, the player has the ability to change the physical shape of the creature, giving it different evolutionary traits depending on what path the player wants his life form to take. Eventually, the creature evolves to the point of sentience, and a new gameplay mode begins in which the species establishes its own civilization. Cities are built, technology is researched, and eventually the player's species becomes capable of space flight; the player is able to first explore and colonize their home solar system and later, the entire galaxy. Will Wright has stated that the game's overall goal is to get to the center of the galaxy, and that the game does, in fact, have an ending. While there is no hard ending that acts as an end to gameplay, the final space section culminates in a one- off meeting at the galactic core where you are rewarded with the terraforming staff of life item. EA is already planning Spore not just as a game but an entire franchise. The property has already been targeted for post- release expansion packs, Wii, and i. Phone adaptations are already underway. Additionally, EA has announced an i. Tunes- style "Spore Store" which will be built into the game itself, allowing for the digital distribution of future Spore expansion packs as well as Internet sales of Spore merchandise including t- shirts, posters, a collectible card game, and possibly custom figures created from 3. D prints of submitted creature designs. Spore Creature is the Nintendo DS version of spore, featuring different gameplay and overall design based more on story and adventure gameplay, the Nintendo DS version of Spore also featured a unique cartoony style. Gameplay. The gameplay of Spore takes place on a massive scale, and as such, the game generates many of its assets through procedural programming and system inter- connectivity. The majority of Spore's content is generated both by the game itself, by the player in his own game, and by other players. Spore is being referred to as a "massively single- player" game, in which the procedurally generated content (animals, sentient species, planets, vehicles, civilizations, and so on) of each copy of the game are spread to every other copy of the game on the planet, as long as that person's computer is connected to the Internet. Spore's gameplay is comprised of five individual phases, each based on a previously released franchise and genre. The initial cell or "tide pool" phase is based on a blend of Pac- Man and Flow, the creature phase is based on World of Warcraft, the tribal phase is based on Populous, the civilization phase is based on Sim. City or Civilization, and the Space phase is based on Master of Orion. Editors. There are a total of eight editors in the game, governing the creation of vehicles, buildings, creatures, and more. Each editor has a built in complexity limit to prevent the overpowering of vehicles or creatures. However, this may be easily overridden by a console command. Game Stages. The game consists of five stages in which you will play through using various play styles while following the life cycle of your creature and the galaxy that they are in. Cellular. Cell Phase. After a cinematic opening of a meteorite crashing into a planet, the player begins his creature's journey as a microscopic cell, or microbe. During this stage, using the control of the mouse, you must survive by eating smaller microbes and avoiding larger ones, similar to gameplay in Pac- Man or fl. Ow. After you have eaten enough, the microbe will lay an egg, allowing you to enter the first editor. In the Microbe Editor, you edit your cell with various parts including weapons, eyes, appendages, etc. These will aid you in survival and also grow your creature. After you leave the editor, your cell enlarges and the camera zooms out, allowing you to see even larger and more versatile microbes. After eating enough food, you progress into the Creature Stage. Creature. Creature Phase. Upon finishing the Cellular Stage, you will begin constructing your creature that will become your official species throughout the rest of the game. The Creature Editor (along with the other editors) will function the same way as the Microbe Editor, however will allow you to create a sentient, land fairing creature using arms, legs, eyes, mouths, etc. You will then need to carry out tasks such as eating, communicating, and eventually mating. You will encounter many other forms of creatures, both predator, prey, and your own species, and you basically play in a third person free roam. By doing so you will earn DNA points for the editor and evolve your brain, which is required to move onto further stages. After visiting the editor multiple times and meeting the requirements for brain level, mating with another creature of your species will allow you to advance to the Tribal Stage. Tribal. A village during Tribal Phase. After mating, your creature becomes sentient, which means it is intelligent enough to communicate and hold relations with other creatures. The gameplay style now switches to somewhat of an RTS; you can now control multiple creatures of the same species. The goal of this stage is to grow your tribe to fifteen members or conquer/ally with five other tribes on the planet (no matter what the species) by way of violence, diplomacy, or religion. Each tribe has a hut, which acts as a base of operations and can have many things added for the tribe members, such as for entertainment and weaponry, however at the cost of food. Your tribe also has 2 special abilities based on how you played creature, for example a omnivore type creature in tribal will be able to summon all creatures around it at the moment to help in combat and will be able to cause a giant sea monster to knock fish out of the water for free food. Civilization. A city under attack in the Civilization Phase. When the Tribal Stage is complete your creatures move on to build a city. Gameplay still acts as a RTS, however also adds in the need to maintain your own city, such as Sim City. Once again the goal is dominate the other cities around the planet, however with the addition of having to collect gas from geysers spread across the planet and keeping your enemies away. Cities are obtained in one of three ways. The first two involve building military or Religious units and sending them at a city. If victorious it will be conquered or converted respectively. Both of these methods likely will start a war. The third way is a peaceful method is building Economic units and sending them to open a trade route, leading to you eventually making an offer to buy the city. Space. Exploration of the Final Frontier dominates the Space Phase. The final stage of the game allows you to construct a spacecraft, which grants you many abilities to help you explore and possibly conquer the galaxy. Hundreds and hundreds of solar systems are available to be explored, and with the use of the many tools that your spacecraft will gain you will be able to manipulate planets, scan for intelligent life, interbreed creatures, and even obliterate a planet entirely, which in turn may cause a new asteroid belt to form. During your encounters with other intelligent species, you may choose to once again settle things peacefully or start an intergalactic war. Sporepedia. Spore has a feature called the Sporepedia, the Sporepedia allows you to browse and download any other player in the worlds creatures, vehicles and buildings. Players can also create Sporecasts, which are constantly updating packages of creatures by a user. Players also have a friends system in the Sporepedia and can have their creations featured on the main page. Controversy. Secu. Rom DRMEA has limited each copy of Spore to five individual installs by the user at any given time; Also the game will re- authenticate any time you add new downloaded content from the Sporepedia. If the user surpasses the five install limit they will receive an error message that will ask the user to verify the registration code and to reinstall the game. Any further issues may be forwarded to EA's support service. Piracy. Ironically despite the heavy restrictions put on Spore to prevent piracy it Spore turned out to be the most pirated game of 2. September and the lists creation in early December by Torrent. Freak. Spore also earned the title of being one of the fastest pirated games of 2. This is no doubt aided by the fact that Spore was available on torrent websites almost a week before it's official release date. Religion in Spore. In an interview with Eurogamer posted August 1. Will Wright claimed that most of the "religiously" oriented criticism of the game has come from what Wright called "Militant Atheists", instead of the expected religious audience. Anti. Spore. com. A newly launched website called Anti. Spore. com which claims Spore is teaching kids evolution. Also the website claims to want the E rating pulled and made into a M Rated game. The website was later revealed to be a hoax following references to the often implausible nature of content posted on the internet and Poe's Law. Graphics Problems. Spore does not support anti- aliasing and is limited to 3. Also, by not being displayed at the standard LCD monitor refresh rates of 6. Unfortunately, there is currently no patch to fix these issues. Graphics driver software, however, such as Nvidia forceware, can be used to enable anti- aliasing, texture filtering, and vertical sync. Limited Edition. Galactic Edition. Spore's limited edition is called "Galactic Edition" and will include the following bonus content: The Making of Spore DVDHow To Make a Better Being DVD (a 5.
